May 1st: A New Month
Thousands of protestors flock to Huntington Beach in Orange County because people are wise.
The White House blocks Fauci from testifying before Congress.
It’s now May, a whole new month. Today is the eve of my niece turning 18! I don’t feel old. It’s fine.
A new series called House Hunters: LOL is on the horizon. It features comedians watching House Hunters while social distancing in their homes and video chatting with other comedians. I am IN.
The people of New Zealand have invited quirky ways for businesses to be “contactless.” A toy train is involved.
Welp, it’s May. Here in CA we’re still locked down til the end of this month. We have some exceptions - construction can resume, some recreation facilities, companies that operate outdoors (plant nurseries, flea markets) can get back in the flow. Though the nursery in my neighborhood has been open the whole time with a special set up, so not sure what the change is? Apparently real estate is back on, but viewings have to be done virtually.
I heard back on a couple job things today and scheduled a phone interview for next Tuesday, and talking to a new Ohio recruiter that day as well. Finished torturing myself over a cover letter for a job I’m very interested in here in Berkeley and sent it in. I still think cover letters are the worst thing ever perpetrated against job searchers, but I will respect the process. The only connections I have to this place are via two people from my campaign days who I haven’t spoken to in 20 years, and that’s just too long to ask for some kind of favor. I just can’t. There are limits to networking. Again, respect the process.
In related news, this may one day turn into a comedy blog about the job search.
I broke down and called one of the moving companies who was previously stalking me to get quote for a potential move. I had the option of sending a comprehensive list of my belongings, OR do a video call on Monday and walk the rep through my home while. The latter sounded best, but Monday is MY BIRTHDAY and I just can’t do something that depressing that day. Probably silly, but there ya go.
Left to right: The chicken down the street. Sadly the sign is so old it’s hard to photograph. The last photos are of the sushi place around the corner - their reopening signage could use a little bit of work…
