April 22nd: Listen to Fauci

Headlines

  • A doctor says he was removed from his federal post after pressing for rigorous vetting of treatments embraced by Trump. When questioned Trump said “ I never heard of him.”

I want to keep watching these briefings, but they are truly painful. Maybe I’ll start watching Governor Newsom’s at Noon to perk myself up. The highlight was when ABC reporter Jon Karl “That’s not true!” after Trump said the press would criticize him even if the government tested every American ten times. It was honestly refreshing to see a member of the press get appropriately frustrated and just call out his ridiculousness.

Another great moment was when Trump kept saying that maybe we won’t have a resurgence of the virus in the Fall - maybe that just won’t happen. Within a few minutes, my man Dr. Fauci stepped up and completely contradicted him: “We will have Coronavirus in the Fall….I’m convinced of that…..In the Fall we’ll be much much better prepared for containment.” He really didn’t seem uncomfortable doing it either. That’s why he’s legend.

When asked point-blank what he would advise somewhere like Georgia that’s planning to start re-opening this week, he said he’d advise Georgia’s Governor NOT to reopen and added “I plead w/ the U.S. public & governors. Don't "leap frog" mitigation steps.”

I don’t want to be a total fangirl here, but Fauci just feels like the only grown-up in the room who is comfortable telling us the uncomfortable and sometimes awful truth. I have always responded to direct, no-bullshit type people and that is him. If I skipped all the same briefings as him, I’d be a lot less agitated.

Aside from all that, we had some real excitement around the neighborhood today. As soon as I opened my door I saw a neighbor yelling at a guy who was apparently casing the place and walking by our apartments, just snooping around.

Hours later I ventured out to see two of my favorite Senior neighbors talking to a guy I thought was another one we’d all seen skulking about and everyone was in a tizzy about yesterday, but then realized it didn’t look him.

Apparently I missed one of my immediate neighbors really tearing into him. Then another neighbor came down and got the story and wanted to go give the guy a talking to….it was all very dramatic. I offered to walk Neighbor Nancy home so we could escape the escalating conversation (NOTE: she lives 100 feet from where we were). But she took me up on it. HA!

Who needs to go out? I got all the entertainment I need within 50 feet of my front door AND I got to go to Walgreens for Brenda today.

Left to Right: Today’s chyrons and the nifty new sign on our laundry room door. Truly a sign of the times.
